How to Network in a New City

Moving to a new city can be scary, we have 3 tips to help you get by.

Make it Known. Post on LinkedIn or Facebook prior to your move that you are moving to xyz and are looking to make new connections. There’s likely someone who has a friend of a friend who lives in that same city that has a similar field as you. We all know it can super awkward chatting with that person, but regardless if you put in the effort it will pay back.

Use Bumble Bizz. Yes, you read that right. Bumble isn’t all about swiping right for Mr. Right. Recently, the app created a new segment that allows you to make business connections through swiping right and left. The app was created so that professionals can connect, learn and share with one another. Bumble Bizz makes it easier for people to meet others in their professional realm without having the awkward chit chat. Let’s face it, it’s much easier to talk with someone for the first time behind a screen than in person.

Find a Tribe. Whether it’s through Facebook, Meet Up or some other social media application you need to find a group of people that have similar interests and ethics. Search through Facebook groups and events, you will find something that sticks out to you. Many cities have specific Facebook groups for each neighborhood, and usually post about events, happenings and meet ups throughout the area.

You have to get out of your comfort zone to make new connections. Rule of thumb, if you don’t feel uncomfortable you’re doing something wrong! The connections may not come easy, but if you’re putting in the effort you will have connections in your new city in no time.
