How to Find the Internship that’s Right for You
Research
Just like with anything in life, it’s a good idea to do some research before applying for an internship. Figure out what kind of internships are out there and where you would be a good fit. After narrowing it down to a few positions, the next step is...MORE RESEARCH. Now that you’ve found what you think to be the perfect internship, do some more research on the company. Go past what the company does and try to find out who they are. One of the most important questions to ask is what’s their company culture like?
Resources
If an online search just isn’t working out, then it’s time to turn to your own resources. College career centers are a great place to start when looking for internships and most often times than not they have the connections to get you that initial interview as well. Also, take a look at your personal connections, this can be family friends, your aunt, or Joe Smith that you meet in line at Starbucks. Chances are, you already know someone who has the connections to help get you the perfect internship.
Reviews
So you’ve found the ideal internship. You fit all the qualifications, the company website looks amazing, and you can really see yourself fitting in with their company culture. Well, sometimes looks can be deceiving. Especially if you find an internship via an online database, it’s always a good idea to look at reviews of the internship position you are applying for. Sometimes, companies that sound too good to be true- are too good to be true. Glassdoor is a great website for checking the validity of a company and to see if they are who they claim to be on their website and socials.
