We have all worked from home at one point or another whether you are feeling under the weather or work remote on a daily basis. Sometimes it can be hard to find the motivation to get through the day. As someone who has worked remotely in the past, I have found these tips very helpful for being productive away from the office.
Get an early start, everyone else went into the office today they aren't waiting for you to wake up. Be sure to get dressed and ready in the morning as if going to an office. This helps you to not feel lazy and think as you can just slack off while you should be working. Find yourself a nice quiet space to work in with no distractions. Although you are home for the day you still need to be focused on work so don’t let people or things get you off task. If you work remotely on daily basis switch it up don’t work from home everyday visit a local coffee shop, library or somewhere you can stay productive.
When you first start your day make sure to check all your emails and make yourself a detailed to-do list as to what you need to accomplish for the day. It helps to structure your day like you would in the office. Throughout the day you should be corresponding with your colleagues about what you have been working on and what it is going on in the office as well. If you have important calls to make and are feeling under the weather, try to save them till you are feeling at your best later in the day.
Breaks are important when you are working from home as well. However, try not to just pull up a news site or hop onto YouTube, we want to give our eyes a break from looking at the computer screen. Try going for a walk or doing some chores around the house like a load of laundry.
Have a definitive stopping time. Often when you are working from home time can get away from you and all of a sudden you look up at the clock and its 8 o’clock. Where did the day go? You were productive but you never planned on staying online this late. Make sure you set a clear stopping time as you would if you were working in an office.
Working remotely is becoming more and more popular in the workforce. Even if you’re just taking a sick day you can be sure to be productive, crushing those checklists, responding to emails and taking your well-deserved breaks. Everyone in the office will be jealous when you come back to work on Monday.
