How to Stay Motivated While Working Remote

Whether you’re working freelance or are simply out of town, you will likely come across working remote at some point in your career. It can be tough to adjust to working alone at first, but don’t fret. We’ve compiled a list of tips to help keep you productive during work hours no matter where you are.

Know Where You Work Best. Everyone stays motivated and creative through different outlets and environments. The key to working remote is to know where you will work best and utilize it. Some people prefer to have a home office, while others are most productive at coffee shops or cafés. Try to avoid working in your bedroom. Mixing work where you sleep can affect you later on as you try to unwind.

Coffee or tea. Whatever keeps you going. It is important to remember that you are still working, even if it’s from your couch. You are being paid to complete a job, so no matter how tired you get, you have to keep going. You should be using the same stamina and dedication that you would in a cubicle. Keep in mind, if you successfully work remote and get your assignments done, your boss will be more inclined to grant you permission to do so in the future.

Communication is key. If you are working remote but still part of a team, be sure to verbalize any questions or concerns you have with your colleagues. It’s easy for things to get forgotten or lost in translation when you are not in the same room, so keep on top of things as best as you can. HSC has two offices in Nashville and New York, and we are always communicating via phone or pinging 24/7. Don’t be afraid to reach out to others with questions.
