The Best Career Advice We've Received

October 22, 2018

In need of some career guidance? We are sharing some of our best advice for wherever you are in your career path.

Hannah Schneider, CEO: Running a business with integrity and being kind is always the right thing to do, even though sometimes it’s the more difficult route.

While ethical business practices may feel tedious, the reward is much greater when such practices are implemented. This includes applying ethics in company culture and maintaining morale. Stakeholders are much more inclined to work with a business that has transparent values and applies their values when making decisions. Many businesses who fail to abide by ethical standards or have low morale often do not survive and are at a high-risk for ruining their reputation.

Kelsey Vincent, Social Media Manager: Know the difference between being uncomfortable in your growth and being in pain. If you’re in pain, it’s time to leave.

Discomfort accompanies growth and pain. There is something to gain from being uncomfortable in your growth. You often become stronger and more equipped to move forward in your career. Contrastingly, if you are in pain and sense that there will be no intrinsic reward in the long-run, then it’s best you get out of that situation, whether it means changing the company you work for or altering your career choice.

Camille Zigoni, Social Media Coordinator: Write down what you need to get done every single morning. Since I've been doing this, I haven't missed a deadline. Also, utilizing google calendars and following up with people for meetings, etc. so that there isn't a loss in translation anywhere!

Being organized is more than keeping your office space clean. It’s a lifestyle! Creating lists to complete day-to-day goals or keeping a calendar will not only help you stay organized but it will also help you achieve long-term goals, whether they are personal or work-related.

Addie Baesler, Social Media Intern: Stop telling yourself you only have one option.

No question is more over whelming than, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” We are often told we can only have one answer. That’s not true, you can test out multiple career paths. If you just graduated college and have no idea what to do, spend some time working multiple jobs in different industries to get a feel of what you may be interested in. If you’re losing interest in what you’re doing now, try something else.
